Jacqueline Hilton is a gestalt therapist in private practice on the Central coast where she also teaches an ever- evolving, trauma aware, invitational style of yoga. She presented two experiential workshops at The International Gestalt Conference in Canada 2018, one on trans-generational trauma and the other the “I – thou” relationship and somatic self-support. In Sendai 2019, she facilitated an experiential workshop on somatic self-support at the Japan Association of Gestalt Therapy Trauma Conference. She facilitates therapeutic gestalt workshops in Japanese, with an emphasis on body focused awareness and trains Japanese therapists to work respectfully with clients who have experienced trauma.

Our personal relationship with trauma is a key part of our ability to support our clients, and unfortunaltey can sometimes impede the therapeutic process.

This workshop on somatic self- support involves simple techniques for enhancing nervous system regulation, which improves overall health on many levels.  It is an experiential workshop where participants will be invited to experiment with grounding, posture and self-touch to increase awareness and learn how to settle our own nervous systems in response to stress and trauma anywhere, anytime. These practical techniques are tools to use regularly yourself, and potentially teach to your clients. Participants will experience how habits in movement breath and thinking have enormous impact on our responses and the functioning of our nervous system. You will be invited to take the time to explore what techniques help you and discover practical applications of neuroplasticity.

Inspired and supported by the work of Mirium Taylor “Trauma Therapy and Clinical Practice: Neuroscience, gestalt and the body”.

Dr Peter Levine, Bessel van de Kolk and training in yoga , body focussed counselling, and Alexander Technique .
