Bringing Meditation into the Counselling Room: When, How and Why

While meditation has long been recognised as an aid to human well-being, with research also indicating some excellent physical and mental health benefits, it is perhaps not commonly thought of as a direct counselling strategy. Perhaps with time so precious in the counselling room, meditation might instead be thought of as an additional strategy for the client to seek out. In this presentation we explore options for the counsellor to use meditation with the client within a counselling framework, and the parameters to guide its wise and effective use.

Your Presenter – Sue Collins

My HWC role includes developing and/or facilitating many client group programs, and counselling women who may be presenting with the effects of complex trauma from recent or historical abuses, impacted mental health, distress from disrupted or estranged relationships, and a range of domino-like occurrences and consequences relating to abuse, victimhood and poverty (e.g. homelessness, addiction, self-harm, isolation, declining mental health).
