Growing a Counselling Practice with two renowned speakers Richard Hill MB, MSc, MA, MEd, of the Mind Science Institute and David G Broadbent, one of the worlds recognised leaders in the area of occupational health and safety psychology.

David's workshop will encompass some practical strategies that can open up new counselling practice ventures by drawing on the thinking of Edward de Bono who originated the term lateral thinking, wrote the book Six Thinking Hats, and Tony Buzan who popularised the idea of mental literacy and a thinking technique called Mind Mapping.

Richard's presentation will canvas the questions of how we best apply knowledge, when knowledge and technique become the instruments of utilization; how we manage the application of modalities and manualised technique; and, most importantly, what do we create from what we learn?

The day will commence at 9:00 a.m. with opening by the President of the PCA (ACT & NSW) Inc.

Followed by overview from both presenters.

Richard Hill MBMSc, MA, MEd, DPC.

A fundamental of a growing business is that clients return and/or refer you to others. Counselling is a lot to do with what is in your head, but also has a lot to do with what is in your heart. How do we create a balance and even more so, how do we create something unique and special? I will share what I have learnt in conversation with people both here and overseas that I am fortunate enough to now call colleagues. I will also draw from the writings of one of the most important and influential practitioners of therapy - Milton H. Erickson.  Milton Hyland Erickson was an American psychiatrist and psychologist specializing in medical hypnosis and family therapy.

Richard is a speaker, author, trainer, counsellor, and psychotherapist.

He is also President of the Global Association of Interpersonal Neurobiology Studies (GAINS), and an Esteemed Member of the International Council of Professional Therapists. He sits on the editorial board ofThe Neuropsychotherapist Journal; the International Journal for Psychosocial Genomics and is director of the Mindscience Institute. In these capacities, and as a sought after speaker and educator, he is received around the world at conferences and other professional programs.

He is a regular presenter at the Milton Erickson Foundation conferences in the USA, and for the Australian Counsellors Association. He has spoken in many locations including Lucerne, Switzerland; Hong Kong, China; Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina; Kathmandu, Nepal; Kuching, Malaysia; Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands; Ottowa, Victoria and Saskatoon, Canada.

David Broadbent:

David will share the strategies, tricks, and just plain luck that has had him seeing the world for the last decade – and it all started from counselling injured workers from that factory around the corner. In his presentation and workshop he will identify way points in his career and share how he got to those places which may be jump points for other mental health practitioners. During his workshop you will be given the opportunity to experience some practical strategies that can open up new counselling practice ventures by drawing on the thinking of Edward Debono and Tony Buzan.

David G. Broadbent graduated from the University of Newcastle (NSW, Australia) in 1987 after having completed an Honours Degree in Psychology.

David is the creator of The Transformational Safety Culture and Leadership Development Systems. He is one of the world’s foremost speakers on Safety Culture and Safety Leadership Psychology and how these things fundamentally affect our workplaces. David has a long history of presenting at conferences both domestically and around the world.
