Central Coast Branch Meeting

Gwen Duncan is presenting

Dementia: its effects and how to cope.

The word dementia can create feelings of apprehension, confusion and fear. Carers of people with dementia can often feel isolated within the community when they do not understand what dementia is, they find it hard to cope with the inevitable changes that occur with dementia and communication can quite challenging.

Learning about dementia and how to care for someone with dementia can help reduce stress and fear, not only for the present but for the future as well.

Gwen will provide information about dementia, what it is, how it affects the brain and how to communicate with someone suffering from dementia. There are many types of dementia which produce different symptoms and behaviours. Information about the early signs of dementia enables people to seek help and advice while it is in the early stages.
